Year in Review: Matthew Stepanic

Attachment-1

2018 was a big year for Matthew Stepanic.

Edited 3 poetry chapbooks.

Published his own chapbook, Relying on That Body, which has a poem for each of the eliminated queens from Ru Paul’s Drag Race, Season 10.

Interviewed a lady who hates Christmas.

Wore bow ties.

Started a poetry podcast with his best friend Rayanne.

Opening a bookstore in 2019.

Held his new baby nephew in his arms.

Ate ice cream.

Had so many stories about him published in Vue that it shut the magazine down.

Published poetry in Poetry is Dead and Prism.

Met Monet X Change. She read his poem about her back to him and then signed his poem from his chapbook and gave it to him. It’s not clear whether she bought a chapbook.

2019 will be another exciting year for Matthew Stepanic.

Named the Writer-in-Residence for the Edmonton Public Library.

Writing a Fringe play.

Adopting a second dog.

Having one of his poems projected onto the surface of the Moon.

Grant from the Canada Arts Council to work on a poetry manuscript that he will probably not show to his friend JLN.

Opening Glass Bookshop in Edmonton in 2019.

Your 2019 will probably not be as fruitful and exciting as Matthew Stepanic’s, but we can all dare to dream.
